Lock Rekey Service

Just bought a home, lost a key, or need to take back a key someone else still has? Rekeying changes the inside of your existing lock so the old keys no longer work — and it usually costs less than buying new locks.

Rekey, per lock $69–$169

How Rekeying Works

Inside every lock cylinder is a set of small pins that line up with the cuts on your key. To rekey, we take out the cylinder, replace the pins with a new set and cut new keys to match. The lock stays on your door and looks exactly the same — but the old keys no longer turn it.

When to Rekey

  • You just bought a home. You don't know how many copies of the old keys are out there.
  • A key was lost or stolen.
  • A former employee, contractor or family member still has a key.
  • You're tired of carrying a key for every door and want one key for the whole house.

Businesses often rekey after staff changes — it's faster and less expensive than new locks for every door.

Rekey or Replace?

If your locks work smoothly and you're happy with them, rekeying is usually the better value. If a lock is worn, sticking, damaged after a break-in attempt, or you want a stronger deadbolt or a smart lock, replacement makes more sense — see our lock installation service, from $99 to $249.

Call or text (831) 317-6414 with how many locks you have. We'll give you a price before we head out, and you can pay by cash, card, Zelle, Apple Pay or check.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is rekeying cheaper than replacing the lock?

Usually, yes. You keep your existing hardware and only pay for the new pins and keys. Rekeying ranges from $69 to $169 per lock.

Can you make all my locks work with one key?

Often, yes. If your locks use the same type of keyway, we can rekey them so one key opens the front door, back door and garage entry. We'll check your locks and let you know.

Can you rekey a keypad or smart lock?

Many keypad and smart locks have a backup key cylinder that can be rekeyed like any other lock. Call or text us the model and we'll confirm.

What do I need to show you?

A photo ID and proof that you own or live at the property, such as a deed, lease or utility bill.
